The
2013-14 Chess team continued their dominance at the Individual State
Championships in Seaside. After
placing 4th at the Team State Championships on March 14th at the Oregon
Convention Center, the team took their talents to Seaside Saturday, April 12th for
the 9th annual OSCF State Championships.
The result was the highest the team has ever achieved at Seaside. In our 4th year of qualifying for
Seaside no other Metzger Team has brought home more awards then this year’s
group. The team had three players
win 4 out of 5 matches, a 5-0 State Champion and 2 others winning a plus
score! “Our players represented
Metzger with such great pride” Coach Risher added. “Each of these kids had an up and down year individually but
win, lose, or draw they are always there to support each other. It’s that type of support and teamwork
that allows us to have success at Team & Individual tournaments.” The 9 players that attended Seaside
Saturday were: 5th grade-Lucas
Erickson, Gavin Wright & Kyle Fennelly (5-0 State Champion). 4th grade-Sam Fitzgerald (2nd Place)
& Owen Hamon (4th place). 2nd
grade-Jack Bishop & Tate Woodward (Plus Score award winners) and Lucas
Wright (4th Place K-2 Division).
Trent Woodward (Plus Score award winner). Congratulations to all of these players! They compete every week at club and
make each other stronger players every week
